New Kinetis Processor Family from Freescale based on ARM Cortex-M4
23-June-2010

Freescale has announced new family Kinetis, this is based on ARM cortex-M4 core. ARM Cortex™-M4 processor is the latest embedded processor by ARM specifically developed to address digital signal control markets that demand an efficient, easy-to-use blend of control and signal processing capabilities. So Kinetis processor has great mix signal capabilities and with low power consumption this makes it useful in the market of compact devices.
As per website of freescale at present we have 5 variants of Kinetis family
MK10 - Kinetis K10 Low-Power Mixed-Signal MCU
MK20 - Kinetis K20 Low-Power MCU with USB On-The-Go
MK30 - Kinetis K30 Low-Power MCU with Segment LCD
MK40 - Kinetis K40 Low-Power MCU with USB and Segment LCD
MK60 - Kinetis K60 Low-Power MCU with Ethernet and Security

Development tools which are supporting this new family are IAR workbench for ARM and CodeWarrior 10.
MQX RTOS has support of Kinetis family. IAR is also adding support of MQX RTOS for Kinetis family of processor.

New 64-bit QorIQ platform from freescale target Network Market Domain
23-June-2010

Freescale has announced new 64-bit QorlQ platform which is based on e5500 core. This e5500  core is based on e500 core. These processor operate on frequency of 2.5 GHz and can work on 32-bit mode also in order to support compatibility with 32-bit core.
Based on the Power Architecture Instruction Set (ISA) v2.06 and designed for compatibility with future generations of QorIQ products, e5500 technology features:

1.A 7-stage pipeline with out-of-order execution
2.Increased flat addressable memory space up to 64GB
3.High performance classic Floating Point Unit (FPU) supporting IEEE 754 Floating Point Operations
4.Hybrid 32-bit mode to support legacy software and transition to 64-bit architecture
5.L1 cache, backside L2 cache plus shared L3 cache

The Freescale QorIQ platforms and roadmap consist of five platforms (P1, P2, P3, P4 and P5), P5010 is single core and P5020 is dual core. According to press release from freescale these new processors will be available from JULY-2010

Linaro | New Embedded Open Source Development Platform
11-June-2010

Open Source community is very strong in different domain, but we found some slow or less development in Embedded System domain. June is great month for embedded system industry. Because we see that new Embedded Open Source platform is launched from big player of industry. This platform will develop framework around linux.
ARM, Freescale Semiconductor, IBM, Samsung, ST-Ericsson and Texas Instruments come together and made Linaro, which will be a not-for-profit open source software engineering company dedicated to enhancing open source innovation for the next wave of always-connected, always-on computing.
aro will create a common software foundation for software stacks and distributions to land on and provide the best open source tools for developers to develop on. The focus is on low level software around the Linux® kernel that touches the silicon, key pieces of middleware that enable new markets and tools that help the developer write and debug code.
